A flanker is a position found in rugby union. Flankers are usually positioned on either side of the scrum, in the foward pack. They are known for their athleticism, strength, and speed. Flankers are essentially responsible for supporting the scrum, and providing an extra layer of defence for the scrum half. They are also responsible for tackling, blocking, and intercepting the opposition, as well as providing support to the backs. Flankers are often considered to be among the most important players in any rugby team, due to their ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively. They play an essential role in ensuring the team's stability and providing a link between the forwards and the backs.
